Catarina Belim, based in Lisbon, Portugal, has an extensive background working with Tax and Custom matters. Catarina began her professional career in Deloitte’s Indirect Tax division, which she left to join Portuguese leading law firm VdA – Vieira de Almeida & Associados for almost a decade, where she played a successful role in developing the firm’s tax practice area. In 201, Catarina founded her own law firm, Belim (now Belim Castilho), with a special focus on Tax, Customs and International Trade. She provides multi-skilled assistance to clients, both corporate and private, covering practical and comprehensive legal, tax and customs advice, representation in litigation cases and active assistance on compliance, reporting, invoicing and licensing matters. Catarina publishes regularly and is a frequent speaker, promotor and participant in conferences and events for the discussion and further development of tax & customs matters. She integrates the list of eligible tax arbitrators next to CAAD – Portuguese Arbitration Centre for tax and administrative proceeding since 2018, deciding in relevant VAT cases dealing with national and EU law provisions. Catarina is, since January 2020, member of the IVA Scientific committee, a body which discusses VAT matters at a harmonized EU level with the aim to report controverted matters to the European Commission. In this context, Catarina currently participates in the committee “VAT in the digital age” which goal is to gather and present the “best practices” on information report by SAF-T, one stop shop import regime, electronic invoicing and periodical returns to the European Commission, within the Commission’s “Action Plan for a Fair and Simple Taxation”.
