Lane, Sr. concentrates his practice on representation of businesses and business owners in the areas of general business law and taxation, including the purchase or sale of a business, structure of a business to maximize tax savings and asset protection, key employee incentive plans, and more. Gordon practices from the firm’s Charleston, West Virginia office. He also provides estate planning for high net-worth individuals and for business owners, where he provides one integrated plan to a business owner that includes a business and tax plan, estate plan, ultimate sale or transfer of business to children or third party, and after-tax cash flow for retirement. Gordon has experience in structuring mergers, acquisitions, and business transactions to maximize tax savings. Gordon has litigated commercial, probate, and corporate governance disputes and other matters. Gordan has published articles in West Virginia and national legal treatises in the areas of business and taxation. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia on numerous occasions and successfully litigated – and won – the largest tax case ever faced by the baking industry (Cherry River Nat. Bank v. Lorenson). Additionally, Gordon has served on various boards and commissions. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce and was appointed by former West Virginia Governor Caperton as Chairman of a task force to study the financing of K-12 public education and teacher salaries and render a report to the Governor and West Virginia Legislature with recommendations.
