Matthew J. Madsen’s practice includes the representation of affluent private clients in the structure and implementation of complex estate and wealth transfer planning strategies, estate and trust administration and litigation, and audits of gift and estate tax returns. Mr. Madsen advises private clients on their charitable giving strategies, ranging from charitable pledge agreements, donor-advised funds, supporting organizations to private foundations. Mr. Madsen similarly advises tax-exempt organizations on charitable matters, most often relating to their formation and operation and related tax and compliance issues, including strategies for receiving and using a variety of assets for charitable purposes. Several of Mr. Madsen’s articles on estate and charitable planning have been published and he is a frequent speaker on these issues. Mr. Madsen is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2008-2021, and was named to the “40 Under 40” Class of 2008 by the St. Louis Business Journal.
