About
A special counsel at Burnette Shutt & McDaniel, civil rights attorney Stuart Andrews brings determination and intensity to every case. He’s devoted decades to bringing about systemic reform and giving lower-income South Carolinians greater access to the courts, both through the clients he's represented and the policies he's helped put in place.
Through his former practice at a large regional law firm, Stuart established the firm's first structured pro bono program. The effort earned the American Bar Association's National Pro Bono Firm of the Year award. Stuart was a lead partner against the South Carolina Department of Corrections in major litigation that was part of the program. The class-action lawsuit led to a six-week trial and a ruling in favor of incarcerated men and women with serious mental illness.
In addition to civil rights law, Stuart's practice includes healthcare law and qui tam whistleblower litigation.
