- He then went on to attend the University of Santa Clara's law school where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1979
- Later that year, Mark was admitted to the California Bar and admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Northern District of California
- Mark decided to focus his practice on Family Law, and in 1987 he became a Certified Family Law Specialist after being certified by the California Bar's Board of Legal Specialization
- Outside of his law practice, Mark has been very involved in the legal community
- He has been an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar, California Bar, and American Bar Associations
- He was a teaching assistant and consultant for Santa Clara University School of Law's law clinic legal research and writing department (1979-1980)
- Mark was the chair of the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Family Law Section, chair of the Santa Clara County Bar's Lawyer Referral Service, and a bar association representative on the Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council
