- In 2011, he was part of a research expedition to Antarctica on the U.S. ice breaker Nathanial Palmer
- On that research expedition, he used a deep-ocean underwater camera platform to search for predatory species invading the Antarctic Continental Shelf, applying methods he developed for calculating the sizes of species from stereo-photographs
- Mr. Weyer is presently producing a documentary film about that Antarctic expedition
