- Mr. Huelat was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1953, honorably served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1972 to 1974, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1977
- He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Northern Illinois University in 1981 and was admitted to the Indiana bar that same year
- He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals, the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana
- Mr. Huelat is a member of the LaPorte County and Indiana State Bar Associations, where he formerly served on the Legal Ethics Committee
- Mr. Huelat is the author of many articles and a regular lecturer at insurance defense seminars
