- He was also part of the Men’s Soccer Team and received a Scholar Athlete Award
- For his J.D., he attended the University of Idaho College of Law, where he distinguished himself as a McNichols Competition Quarter Finalist, earned pro bono recognition, and served as the Chief Articles Editor for the Critical Legal Studies Journal
- Originally from Indianapolis and later Flagstaff, Joel moved to Boise in the summer of 2019
- Initially eyeing a government career due to his Global Security background, a late pivot to law was prompted by pre-law classes during his senior year and a desire to help other people
- Choosing to join Elam & Burke was a thoughtful decision
- Joel clerked for the firm during the Summer of 2022 and found the firm’s culture welcoming, flexible, and collaborative, satisfying everything he hoped to find in a law firm to call home
