- He then attended Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and received his Juris Doctor in 1964
- While in law school Mr. Montgomery was elected to the Dickinson Law Review and served as Associate Editor in 1963 and 1964
- In addition he was elected to the Woolsack Society for outstanding scholarship
- He also received the Able Klaw Prize for advocacy at graduation
- After law school, Mr. Montgomery was elected to the Board of Trustees for Thiel College
- Mr. Montgomery began his law practice in Butler County in 1964
- He has served as Solicitor for the Butler County Prothonotary since 1976
- Throughout the years, Mr. Montgomery has been extremely active in the Civil side of the Court
- He has litigated cases for both plaintiffs and defendants in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler Cambria, Clearfield, Jefferson, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, and Westmoreland Counties
