Michael has practiced law since 2006. Michael began his legal career in Wilmington, North Carolina with the law firm of Rountree, Losee & Baldwin. Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael worked for two large commercial real estate firms in Charlotte, Trammell Crow and Faison Enterprises, Inc., where he focused on due diligence, acquisitions and dispositions for large commercial real estate transactions all over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Michael’s legal practice is focused primarily in the areas of:
- Commercial real estate development, acquisitions and dispositions, where he is involved in every aspect of the transaction, from contract negotiation, managing due diligence through closing, in addition to zoning and land use and commercial leasing;
- Real estate tax deferred 1031 exchanges;
- Representing financial institutions and in a variety of matters, including asset-based and working capital financing, construction and real estate secured financing, and aviation lending, as well as distressed assets, problem loan work-outs and foreclosures;
- General business matters, including the formation and dissolution of business entities, mergers and acquisitions, and the sale, purchase, and financing of businesses and business assets.
Michael is an active community volunteer. He served on Board of Directors of The Science Center and Environmental Park of Forsyth County (“SciWorks”) from 2009-2015 and as Chairman for four years. Michael currently serves on the Board of Directors of H.O.P.E of Winston-Salem and regularly volunteers with Samaritan Ministries and H.O.P.E. Michael serves as a volunteer coach for youth sports and is an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Born and raised in Winston-Salem, Michael attended R.J. Reynolds High School. He received his bachelor of arts from North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, graduating cum laude. Michael enjoys the outdoors, especially fly fishing, snow skiing, backpacking and camping. Michael and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Mary Bevins and Thompson.
