- Mr. R. Michael Vang was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming where he graduated from Kelly Walsh High School
- Mr. Vang qualified to attend the National Forensic League's High School Debate Tournament, which was held at the University of San Francisco (USF) in June 2012
- The day after Mr. Vang returned from the debate tournament, a person who was ultimately convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide killed his mother and father. (Felske v

- Mr. Vang received a debate scholarship to attend the University of Wyoming, where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Political Science and where he also obtained his J.D degree

- After graduating from law school, Mr. Vang was appointed to handle several driving while under the influence (DUI) cases
