- In addition to conducting trials, Ray also served as an Election Day judge, oversaw Megan’s Law sex offender internet registries, performed civil commitments, and issued gun permits
- Since 2011, Ray has served as Chairman of the Robert L. Clifford Inn of Court, which is one of the largest American Inns of Court
- He has often lectured on criminal and civil trial preparation and procedure, expert testimony and medical malpractice, and has served as moderator for numerous programs presented by various continuing legal education organizations
- He also trained and has given lectures to newly assigned Superior Court judges on presiding over gang trials, jury selection, courthouse security, and other related matters
- Before becoming a judge, Ray served as attorney for the Passaic County Police Academy and the Totowa Board of Education
- Earlier in his career, Ray was a criminal defense attorney and tried more than 100 cases in State Courts and Federal District Courts
- He has also tried numerous civil cases to verdict
- Ray earned a Juris Doctor from Widener University, and he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Montclair State University
