- My journey in adoption began as a licensed mental health counselor, where I provided counseling to expectant mothers and conducted home studies for prospective adoptive parents
- With a deep understanding of the emotional complexities involved, I went on to serve as the director of legal services and later as the executive director of two of Florida's largest adoption agencies
- In pursuit of a comprehensive skill set to advocate for children and families, I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from Western Kentucky University in 1988
- I furthered my education by obtaining a master's degree in educational psychology with a concentration in community counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1989
- After gaining valuable experience as a therapist, administrator, and consultant, I made the decision to pursue a law degree
- In 2005, I graduated with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, solidifying my legal foundation
- While I initially practiced in areas such as domestic violence, disability advocacy, and insurance defense, my passion for adoption led me to focus exclusively on this transformative field
