- Thereafter, he joined the Law Office of Robert Eliasberg as counsel to the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of New York City from 1968 to 1972
- In 1972, he served as a union lawyer for the United Federation of Teachers of New York City
- After that, he moved to South Florida and practiced with Fuller Brumer Moss Cohen & Rodgers from 1972 to 1974 and with Krongold & Bass from 1974 to 1976
- He maintained a private practice from 1976 to 1980 and was a partner at Tobin, Bayer & Jacobson from 1980 to 1987
- He reopened his private practice in 1987 and has been operating in the same location since 1990
- Over the years, Theodore R. Bayer has continued to excel in the legal profession
