- Raised on a North Dakota farm, he learned hard work and toughness before attending Monmouth College in Illinois, where he was an all-conference defensive tackle and an honor student while working two jobs to pay his way
- He graduated with honors in 2006, married his high school sweetheart Emily Eddington that summer, and moved to Carbondale to attend Southern Illinois University School of Law (now Simmons Law School)
- After earning his JD in 2009, Tyler worked at a large civil defense firm but soon chose to represent individuals instead of corporations
- Since 2012 he has fought for the rights of injured people against insurance companies and large corporations
- Tyler and Emily live in Carterville, Illinois with their three children: Belle, Eve, and Rhett
