Can I use a fictitious last name as trade name for my law firm?

I understand about not naming your firm anything false or misleading. My last name is very generic and many variations on it have already been taken when I search on sunbiz. So my options are very limited to nonexistent. I would like to either think of two unique names and combine them into one name for the firm.

I am pretty sure that I may not be permitted but it never hurt to ask when you do not know.

Thanks

Yes, there a number of firms that I have seen using fictitious names in recent years. There is a procedure you must go through before you use such a name. I would suggest you might start by reviewing the information about fictitious names at the Fla Dept of Corp web site at Sunbiz.org. Good luck with your practice.
Florida Bar rules allow you to use a fictitious name for your law firm, but you cannot falsify your last name. FYI, since you are obviously a new lawyer, The Florida Bar has an ethics hotline and LOMAS for your use and reference for ethics and practice management guidance. Both are free.
