I want to sue to the state for defamation of character?

a police officer in utah charged me with domestic violence against my husband because i tugged on his sweater ( because i was caught in it and if he kept going he was going to rip off my fingernail, literally) and i explained that to the officer and he gave me a piece of paper and told me to appear in court. And ever since then i have been being treated as though i was truly a criminal ( i thought the constitution made me innocent until proven guilty) but my guilt was just assumed without the officer even hearing the rest of my story ( i was crying and it was probably hard to understand me) and i was forced to appear in court and they keep trying to make me take a plea in abeyance, but i have dont nothing wrong and if i have it was not letting my fingernail get ripped off

Many times people are wrongfully accused by the police. You have the right to have a trial to present your evidence. Even if you are exonerated ,you are not going to be able to sue the State for defamation due to the doctrine of Governmental Immunity.
