What do USCIS officers look at in the bank statements (I-485, Adjustment of Status)?

I-485, Immigration. My wife and I have joint bank account but my wife never used her debit card that much. Just sometimes for all that time since when we opened this account. She deals with cash much. But I use it a lot. Moreover our monthly turnover on this account is not big. And the monthly end balance is really low every time since we don't earn much. Can it impact our case negatively? What do immigration officers look at in these statements?

I agree with my colleagues. The assumption is that a marriage less than 2 years old is entered into fraudulently so it is up to you to prove otherwise. The officer will look at the entire picture to see if you are in fact married in good faith. A static bank account with little activity may raise a red flag. But if there is activity on the account I doubt if they will look into who is using it more. Consult with an immigration attorney to make sure your shared life package is strong.

Many questions related to your marriage could be raised from the bank statement. You better consult an experienced attorney and have the attorney review your bank statements with you before you submit them to the USCIS.

It's not about one document, it's about the whole picture and whether you are really married in good faith. Are you sharing your lives like a husband and wife typically do.
