Should i plea guilty or not guilty to a disobeying traffic control device 1110A ticket or not?

I received a ticket a month ago in broome county for speeding and am in the process of removing the ticker through a diversion program which includes a defensive driving course to dismiss the ticket. However, i also received a ticket 1 week ago for speeding, but the officer told me he would reduce the ticket to disobeying traffic control device 1110A. He also told me if i plea guilty i would receive a ticket with 2 points and that i could remove those points through a defensive driving course. I was wondering if i should accept as guilty and trust his word on the matter or if the two defensive driving courses conflict with each other. Again one ticket is speeding the other is not so i dont know. please help!

you can only take one defensive riving class every 18 months. I t will remove up to 4 points total from the license. Keep in mind it does not erase the conviction itself.

I think you should consult with a local Traffic Court lawyer - at a minimum you need to know if the Court in the first case will learn about the new ticket and what that will do to your deal.

Check with a local attorney before you have any more discussion with the police. Try to find an attorney familiar with the local traffic court.

The only way to tell if the officer kept his word is to look at the ticket; if he charged you with speeding, then he didn't keep his word. Also, unless he's also a lawyer, he was illegally giving you legal advice, but that's a fight for another day. You should consult with an attorney on the second ticket, and make the attorney aware of the first ticket so you can receive the most effective legal advice.

With all due respect to all those police officers who are doing their best, don't ever take legal advice from a cop, particularly not the one who just wrote you a ticket. Depending on how bad your record is, and on whether the local traffic court allows plea bargaining, a traffic ticket attorney might be able to get this ticket down to a non-moving violation; be prepared to pay for the privilege, however, because the non-moving violation will typically carry a stiff fine (localities are usually more interested in money than in putting points on peoples' licenses).
