What are my options in the domestic violence process?

My ex got violent with me and the law got involved. He is now trying to plead not guilty to everything and take it all the way to trial. I have mostly tried to stay out of it because I was going through a hard time and trying to move forward and put my life back together, but now I was informed that he may be able to fight the charge and get off if I don't get involved. I need advice on what my options are here and what possible outcomes may be. Please help!

If you are the "victim" of the domestic violence charge you can seek advice from the Oakland County Prosecutor's office (at no cost). Otherwise, you can retain an experienced criminal law attorney to personally advise and guide you through the system. Without knowing all the facts, the general answer in a criminal matter is that when the "complaining witness" does not want to get "involved" or is "uncooperative" the defendant has a better chance to get a favorable plea bargain, case dismissal or
"not guilty" verdict.
You can work with the prosecutors office, and see if they have victims services personnel to aid you with the process, or you can hire your own attorney to help walk you through things and be there with you if you have to testify.
I agree with Mr. Wolf. However, I will advise that a prosecutor likely wants a conviction and many times they will be biased towards that outcome. You need to contact your own attorney to tell him/her what your goals and issues are in order for them to adequately advise you.
