Each lawyer charges a different amount based on their experience, expertise and operating costs. I think you can expect to pay anywhere between a couple hundred of dollars to a thousand or more depending on the breadth of the representation. However, a bit of warning though, a lawyer may charge a smaller amount to just review the separation agreement and explain it to you but that probably won't be enough to tell you if you are being taken advantage of. Nonetheless, search Avvo's directory for a local family law attorney and check with him or her about their costs.
As Ryan stated, each attorney sets their own fee. Our firm charges $75 for document review but you may be able to find a firm willing to do it for free. Especially if you have a local attorney that you use for your routine legal work. If you have the ability to scan and e-mail a copy of your agreement, reviewing it is usually a fairly simple process that can be done over the phone without the need of a formal in person appointment so that really opens up a lot of options for you - so shop around.
When comparing fees, please make sure that you are comparing similar services. As mentioned above, you may have an attorney charge a lesser fee but they may simply be "reviewing" the agreement to ensure it is valid and enforceable. What you should seek when hiring an attorney, is for legal advice and guidance to ensure that you also get the best deal possible.
