No one on Avvo will tell you whether you should accept a plea offer. If you want a second opinion, hire another attorney.

Without more facts it would be irresponsible for anyone here to tell you what to do. If you are not satisfied with your current attorney - hire another one.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation. This only thing I can tell you is this: He decision to plead guilty is your's and your's alone. Your attorney advises you, but it is your call.
Whether you should plead guilty is a question that is unanswerable on Avvo because no attorney responding to your inquiry has ALL the facts.
I wish you the best.

I would need more details to evaluate whether you have a valid defense. There is no law that says you cannot own a gun in the District, at least none that is Constitutional, but there are restrictions on concealed carry. There may be other options. If you're unhappy with your lawyer, get a second opinion.

You need to feel comfortable with any decisions you make regarding your case and you should ask your attorney as many questions as it takes in order to feel that you are making the right decision, whether you take the plea or not. Have a thorough discussion with your attorney regarding all of the possible alternatives as well as their pros and cons. Ask questions of your attorney until you fully understand the ramifications of pleading guilty. Will it make you a person prohibited from possessing the firearm in the future? What are the chances of succeeding if you decide to take another avenue rather than plead guilty? Weigh all of the risks. Accepting a guilty plea is the defendant's choice and your attorney is there to explain everything to you, while ensuring that your interests are protected as best as possible. If you do not feel comfortable with your current attorney, then seek out another one. Best of luck!

This is not the kind of question which can be answered on the website – it depends very much on the facts of your case and what kind of negotiations have gone on with the prosecutor. If your lawyer is a former prosecutor they may have some better insights into different kinds of outcomes that might not involve your having a criminal conviction on your record.
