It is possible as long as there is legal entry. We needed to make sure there is no misrepresentation of perceived intent to adjust. Once the application is filed, there is no need to extend b status. Good luck.

Yes, you could.
No, they will not need to renew their "visitor" status while their request for permanent US residence is pending. But "timing" is key with all this. Make sure to work with an experienced attorney from the get go.
Since you mention they are Iranian, do they REALLY intend to live in the US permanently and make the US their permanent home? Ask them. They are asking for trouble each time they come back to "visit" the US "every 6 months" or so - until the "green cards" are taken away from them and they won't even be able to obtain "tourist" visas again..
Did they intend to 'stay' in the US when they came to the US as TOURISTS?
Have they maintained their residence/contacts 'back home'? Or, was this planned?
You should talk to an attorney via Skype.
I agree with my colleagues, it is possible, but very important to take the time to consult with an attorney prior to filing as there are issues that could arise with immigrant intent and prior visits to the U.S. Good luck to you and your family!
