Can I file a police report after leaving the scene of a minor accident?

Somebody hit the side of my car coming out of a stop-sign they did not fully stop at and whilst it is their fault, I failed (as this is my first accident) to file a police claim at the scene. We exchanged phone numbers and left the scene (we also did not exchange insurance because she could not find hers). Can I still file a police claim now? Should I call my insurance (Farm Bureau) and make a claim instead, even if I do not have their insurance?

You sure can file a police report now. Your insurance carrier can repair your car and then might investigate to locate the adverse driver.

Report it to the police and contact both insurers, yours and theirs.

Contact the police with your issue and see if they will do so now. I would also go ahead and contact your insurance company to report the claim in the event you have to go through your own collision coverage.
