- He graduated from CBC High School in 1990, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and the Cadet football and baseball teams
- Chris attended William Jewell College in Liberty, MO where he was a member of the Jewell Cardinals football and Debate Team
- In 1994, Chris graduated from Jewell with Bachelor of Arts Degrees in both Political Science and Communication
- Chris graduated from UMKC School of Law in 1998
- While in law school, Chris served as Managing Editor of the UMKC Law Review, on the Ellison Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board, and he received the Max J. Foust Scholarship, a scholarship awarded annually to a law student with experience or skills that indicate future success in trial advocacy
