About
Amateur athlete, social media novice, husband, and father of four, Doug Wallace is the managing partner of Wallace Smith LLP, a civil litigation law firm based in London, Ontario. Originally from Sudbury, Ontario, Doug relocated to London in 1986 to attend the University of Western Ontario. He earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history before completing law school. During his academic years, Doug worked with Apple Canada, where he developed an early and lasting interest in the practical application of emerging technologies. Doug was called to the bar in 1996 and began his legal career practicing civil litigation at a large firm, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. In 2008, he founded Wallace Smith LLP as a civil litigation boutique serving clients across Ontario. His practice includes Personal Injury Litigation, professional liability, and insurance law, with an emphasis on practical strategies and efficient dispute resolution. Doug has appeared as trial and appellate counsel before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is regularly consulted on complex insurance coverage and liability matters. His work includes involvement in significant and high-profile cases such as the Algo Mall collapse in Elliot Lake, the Sunrise Propane explosion in Toronto, the Nest building collapse in London, and the tragic death of eleven migrant workers near Stratford. Committed to professionalism and civility, Doug is a strong advocate for access to justice and support for marginalized communities. He frequently writes and presents on civil litigation topics and speaks at legal education programs and industry conferences. His practice has also expanded to include mediation services, assisting parties in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom. Outside the office, Doug plays hockey with enthusiasm, if not precision, and applies the same persistence to golf and tennis. He previously coached youth basketball and soccer and continues to support community initiatives through the Oakridge and Norwest Optimist Clubs.
