- While attending law school, Michael served as the first Chief Justice of the Moot Court Society, was a member of the National Moot Court Team, and a Regional Champion and National Finalist in the National Negotiation Competition
- Additionally, he was the recipient of the Corpus Juris Secundum Award from the School of Law in 1992
