• Michael's professional journey began as a teacher of special education students in Baltimore County, later transitioning to an elementary school teacher in Baltimore City
• While he enjoyed teaching, Michael felt a calling to better serve children as a legal advocate
• Graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore Law School, he focused on child welfare through internships with private and public agencies, including Legal Aid's Child Advocacy Unit and Advocates for Children and Youth
• Admitted to the Maryland Bar, Michael served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Child in Need of Assistance Division
• This role allowed him to hone his litigation skills, build relationships with court personnel, and witness the positive impact an experienced attorney can have on a child's life
• Subsequently, he joined the Law Office of Darlene A. Wakefield, P.A., where he has served for the past nine years as Supervising Attorney and Managing Attorney
• In his nearly two decades with the Law Office of Darlene A. Wakefield, P.A., Michael played a crucial role in providing legal advocacy services for abused/neglected children, representing over a thousand children and continuing to represent parents
• He brings a unique perspective to parents, emphasizing the impact of their actions on their children
• Michael holds certifications as a Court Appointed Child's Counsel in family law cases and as a mediator in Maryland Courts
• Beyond child welfare, he advocates for parents in education matters, leveraging his extensive experience in Individual Education Plan Meetings and Due Process hearings
• Michael believes in the transformative power of education for all children, regardless of their socio-economic environment
• In addition to his legal practice, Michael excels in handling all aspects of Estate Planning, assisting individuals and couples in planning for their future and ensuring that all life and legacy needs are honored
