Tom joined DMAW Lawyers in April 2007 as a senior associate, following previous roles at Clifford Chance in London and Hicksons Lawyers in Sydney where he acted in major litigation matters.
Tom specialises in commercial disputes. He has acted in a full spectrum of complex commercial litigation, construction, superannuation, transport and trade matters.
Tom's experience includes advising and representing a variety of clients, ranging from ASX listed companies, international and larger private entities, through to smaller entities, families and individuals.
In all instances, Tom draws on his experience to support the clients in making early informed assessments of risk and, if necessary, their alternative dispute resolution options. Tom works closely with clients to resolve the dispute in line with their desired approach to conflict management.
Tom has particular experience in matters relating to:
- contractual and related business disputes;
- negligence actions;
- claims for breaches of the Australian Consumer Law; and
- recovery actions.
Tom is a leader in our construction law dispute team, providing advice on building management and rectification solutions. In particular, Tom specialises in claim management on projects of all sizes – including all forms of dispute resolution in all of the various South Australian jurisdictions, as well as interstate.
Tom advises clients operating in highly regulated industries, including with respect to industry superannuation fund trustees and self-managed superannuation fund trustees. In particular, Tom has acted on numerous occasions for member representatives of industry superannuation funds on applications made to the Supreme Court of South Australia by the trustees of funds pursuant to section 59C of the Trustee Act (SA) for the Court to exercise its power to vary the terms of the relevant trust.
