I'm 18 and my husband will be 21 next month, we want to go out to the bar for his birthday. My question is can he legally buy me a drink, and is it legal for me to consume it while with him?

Fair question, and it is smart of you to think about this scenario and ask ahead. Ohio Revised Code 4301.22 provides strictly that an establishment with a liquor license may only serve alcoholic beverages to persons age 21 and older. If I were you, I'd avoid the risk of getting thrown out of the bar, getting ticketed for underage consumption or even worse, getting a OVI.
Plus if your husband is turning 21, the group will certainly need a dedicated driver. Depending on how rowdy your husband and his friends are, being the DD could be the best gift you give him on his 21st. Party safe!
He cannot buy you a drink because you are under 21 years of age. You cannot consume the alcohol while you are with him because you are under 21 years of age.

On second thought, 4301.69 does permit the exception you are speaking of. However, the bar will have the discretion as to whether or not they'll allow you to do this with your husband. I still recommend that you be the DD. Again, party safely!
