Can I sue a neighbor for making a false animal control complaint

Personal Injury 10 views 1 answers
Neighbor claimed dogs 'run in the neighbor nightly'. I am able to provide affidavits from other neighbors that dogs never are let out of yard without a leash. Dogs are licensed, vaccinated, contained in a fenced in yard, and sleep/stay in the house when we are at work or at home for the evening. I would never lt my dogs roam at night for fear of foxes and/or coyotes. In addition, that is just not what we do. We believe pets need to be contained.

Maybe - it really depends on what has become of the complaints. You should speak with animal control. If you have a homeowners' association, you may also be able to file a complaint with it. But before you escalate this, have a talk with the neighbor. It doesn't have to be confrontational, but you need to clear the air. Litigation costs time and money and neighbor issues can wreck havoc with your life. Try to resolve this as amicably as possible. If that fails the Michigan Bar Association can give you a referral to a local attorney. Good luck.
