Two tickets- unsafe lane change, failure to disobey traffic device

My dad is a TLC limousine driver and works in New York but he lives in New Jersey.About 2 weeks ago, he got TWO tickets in Long Island, NY. Ticket#1: NYS/VTL-1128.A Description of Violation: moved from lane unsafely Ticket #2:NYS/VTL-1110.A. description; disobeyed traffic control device Both tickets had my dad's last name misspelled by one letter. My dad speaks limited English and he heard through another driver about a lawyer who deals with traffic tickets. I called and found out the charge is $200 for the lawyer fee and he will take care of everything. When I asked if we needed to go in and the secretary said we can discuss it over the phone. The lawyer will try his best to win the case, but if not, we will end up getting the points and pay the fines. Can I trust this lawyer??

I agree with my colleagues. $200 sounds very inexpensive especially in NY. Each ticket, if a moving violation, will transfer 2 points by compact into NJ. If your father has a CDL that could cause problems over and above the insurance increases that may occur. You could check the attorney's credentials on the web. Usually if it sounds too good to be true it is. But the guy came recommended so I don't know.
