My unemployment hearing is waiting to be scheduled. Waiting for what?

I received a notice from the Unemployment Commission in Ohio that my hearing was received. It also said, "waiting to be scheduled". Who are they waiting on me or the employer?

Very often unemployment offices simply send out a notice that an appeal has been filed and received. A little later someone schedules the hearing and sends out another notice with the date and time of the hearing. It could be that you are waiting for the unemployment office's scheduler to set your hearing date and time. However, you are probably best off contacting the unemployment office and confirming that nothing more is needed from you and finding out if there is an atypical delay in scheduling your hearing.
The Review Commission is not waiting on you or on your employer. It has a lot of cases to hear, so the wait is based upon the hearing officer's schedule and how far in advance hearings are being scheduled.
You will probably receive notice of a hearing date soon. In the meantime, if you have not already done so, you should request a copy of your file. When you received notice that your appeal had been filed, you should also have received a form explaining how you can request a complete copy of your file. Go ahead and follow the instructions on that form for requesting and obtaining a copy of your file.
