How are ETGs given in MI? Do they have to be court ordered at sentencing? Do they let you know in advance?

ETG tests are (Ethyl Glucuronide) are used to detect alcoholic for a period of approximately 80 hours. Ethyl glucuronide (or ETG) is a metabolite when alcohol is in the bloodstream. The more alcohol a person consumes the greater amount of ETG. The presence of ETG in the urine can be used to detect alcohol consumption even after the ethanol alcohol is no longer detectable by a PBT. If you refuse the ETG, the Judge might let you slide but then may order them in the future. The Judge will also be suspicious that you used alcohol. On the other hand, your actual sentence order may contemplate random testing to include ETG urine tests. So I cannot tell you to refuse because I do not know your circumstances. Therefore, it is best for you to get an actual copy of your sentence. If you are not ordered to take ETG tests, then ask the court for a review hearing so that you are cleared by the court for this issue in the future. You should hire a lawyer to communicate for you. You are on notice that a refusal may constitute a violation of the terms of your probation. Again, get a lawyer.

It is important to know if you are clean or not. A refusal will raise suspicions and possibly make things very difficult for you. If you are on probation to the Waterford Court your probation order may provide for the testing and you are not aware of it. The best answer is take the test if you are clean. After the test take it up with your probation officer regarding the added expense. However, if you are going to come up dirty you will have violated your probation (obvious). You should have a copy of your probation order. Read it very carefully and see what it says about testing. Does it say random PBT's or random testing at probation officer's discretion? The exact language is important because a violation hearing could be coming. If you are continuing to drink, stop immediately. You are going to end up in jail. If you are not drinking, take the matter up with your probation officer.
