What exactly does Jail Arraignment Mean?
Anonymous4 views3 answers
My fiance has jail arraignment set for Jan 19th for Violation of DUI Probation (his 1st DUI, second degree misdemeanor).
Will this be done from jail via video or does he get to go to the actual courthouse?
And what exactly happens at Jail Arraignment?
I am asking because i would really like to be able to go to court to show him my support and be there for him.
Thank you!
Depends on the jurisdiction as to whether he will be in court or appear via video. Most likely if he appears via video, the judge is in a courtroom with the prosecutor and defense attorney. You can appear on his behalf at the courthouse and speak to the judge at that time.

Jail arraignment typically means that the defendant is in custody so the arraignment is done at the jail (instead of having a defendant having to come to court for arraignment). Whether you can attend, and whether it will be over video depends on the policies of the particular county. In Orange County, they have an actual courtroom in the jail and a judge is there, along with clerk, deputies, the prosecutor, and the publid defender, etc.. Other counties such as Seminole or Osceola, have a courtroom at the jail that the attorneys go to, but the judge appears via a video monitor. I suggest you contact the county jail where your fiance is being held and ask whether you can attend the arraignment.
The policies depend on the court and the jail. Contact the court and find out if you can observe the proceedings and if they are via video or in the jail.
