Do you need to send an N-400 application for US citizenship via certified mail? Or is regular mail acceptable?

The instructions in the form just state to mail the forms to a specific address. I want to know if it is better to send the form via certified mail or if it is okay to send it by regular mail. I'm filling out the N-400 application for US citizenship for myself. I'd appreciate the advice of any CA attorney.

If the USCIS does not get it or loses track of the filing, you can prove that the N-400 was received by the USCIS if you send it "certified mail, return receipt requested." Certified mail alone may not be enough, if you lack proof that it was signed for to the satisfaction of the USCIS. A cancelled check can also prove that the USCIS received your N-400.

To avoid unnecessary delays, send the N-400 by certified mail or get a delivery confirmation.

If you are really concerned about the N-400 being delayed or lost, send it by FedEx with delivery confirmation (be sure to address it to the appropriate address for direct deliveries).
