At the bottom of most web sites they have terms and conditions and similar "locations" which will answer your questions. Each site has its own procedure. Some do not have such a procedure, but it is a small minority.

I think the better answer is – You can’t. Yes you can sometimes take down a post and it is really gone. See previous Attorney answer for the way to do that. But most of the time, once you post something out there on the Internet in a public forum it is there permanently. Even if you succeed in having the original post removed, it is likely that someone has copied it or archived it. For example, Google has computers that are always automatically searching the Internet for new content. They then include that content in their search database, and often they make archival copies. It is often possible to view a web page through a Google search long after that web page has been deleted. Even postings that appear private usually are not. For example, if you post something to your private Facebook page, there is still a good chance that the content will get out to the general Internet. You should also keep in mind that private emails often become public information on the Internet as well. You may think you have a lot of autonomy when you write something on your personal computer in your own home, or create a private photograph or video, but once you send that information over the Internet, you should consider that it is going public and will stay public forever. If you do not want that to happen, do not send that information on to the Internet. The Internet is fairly new. Yet there is already a lot of information out there that may come back to haunt the sender some day. It will be interesting to see what happens with that information. In the future, think before you post, not after you hit send.

The internet has been around for decades now, far older than many posters. One truism is that nothing is ever really deleted. You can, however, ask the posting company to remove the content. On a per site basis, you can look up their policy and see what they require.
