I recently move out of a house I was leasing. My landlord had a $2100 security deposit. He returned to me only $825. Hecharge me for painting, although the house wasn't painted befor I moved in. I paid him for the whole month of Sept but moved out on the 15th. He charged me a weeks rent because he couldn't rent the house while it was being painted. He charged me for a light fixture that burned out in the laundry room,I was charged for a cleaning service to wash the windows and clean the 2 bedroom carpets that I had installed at my own expense. He even charged me to recaulk the bathroom. I don't think I have been trated fairly and would like to know what recoure I have. Thank you

In most states the security deposit must be returned except for extraordinary repairs necessitated by the tenant. The repairs you describe sound like ordinary wear and tear repairs. You can take you landlord to the court of appropriate jurisdiction in your state and probably get most of your remaining deposit back. BTW, any time you rent an apartment, before you move in you should do a walk through inspection with the landlord, noting areas that need repair or will be accepted as is. If you can take a camera and pictures. The LL may think you are being picky but this is the only way to prove what the original state of the apartment was.
