expunge my record at 18. I went to this youth court, got sentenced community service & some classes at the youth court. Here's the thing: the youth court's goals are that you basically do everything you're sentenced in the time given & then your record is gone after that. I called the police station & they said my record has NOT been expunged, so I call back my youth court & they said that's weird, they'll check up on it & call me back...never did. I am 16 now, going into senior yr, & am applying to college soon. on the common app, should I tell them I've been convicted/arrested/etc? or i can say no bc i heard colleges cant see juvenile records? despite me being IN college at 18 (late birthday), i will still expunge it for the sake of my future as an adult w/ jobs and such. so what now?

Youth court does not equal expungement, which is the destruction of all records by all law enforcement agencies. That can happen when you turn 18. A college application should not ask you about arrests and you have not been convicted, so this should not be an issue on your college applications.

From your post, it sounds as if you were granted informal probation pursuant to either 654 or 654.2 of the W&I code. In either case when you successfully completed your community service your case was dismissed. That is not the same as sealing your juvenile record. When you turn 18, you will need to take the steps necessary to have your record sealed. In most counties the forms are on-line and you can fill them out yourself. Once you complete the necessary paperwork, make sure you file it with the appropriate court clerks office. The Judge usually signs the forms without the need for a hearing. Regarding applications, whether or not you are filing out an application for a job or college, you will always check the box "NO" you have not been convictedof a crime regarding this incident. There are no convictions in juvenile court.
