Can my parents kick me out when i turn 18 if i am still attending school?

I'm 17, about to be 18 in a month. I am currently a senior in high school with passing grades. My parents are planning on kicking me out the day i turn 18. I have a place to stay, and a job, so i am nearly independent if they do kick me out. The problem of the situation is our car. I paid for half of it, and my parents paid the other half. Without a car, i cannot attend school, or work so my independence is reliant on the idea i will have a car. As of now, i plan on demanding to be evicted. I'll have a bit more time to save money and plan my near future. So, I have two questions really: 1.) Can my parents kick me out at 18 if i am still attending school? 2.) If my parents do kick me out, is there any legal way that i might be able to get the car

Wow, that is really a negative situation. Bottom line is you probably need to have some counseling with your parents, as it sounds like they are handling this matter in a pretty dysfunctional fashion that will forever change the way that you interact with each other. When you turn 18, you are an adult and have all of the freedoms and responsibilities of an adult. So, they could possibly kick you out of the home. However, that is contrasted with the duty of a parent to provide support for a child until they turn 19. So, this is not a simple issue. I can tell you that judges will definitely NOT went to address this family mess of a situation and interfere.

I believe they can tell you to hit the road and they can do it without giving you wheels. I will be interested to see what my Colorado colleagues think. As for the car, that is more interesting. I'd say, try to buy their interest int he car or, if you have that much dough, buy your own once you hit 18. I am sad to read of this -- perhaps you could work on that relationship you have and take advantage (in the best way possible) of the wisdom and guidnace they have to offer in your life -- and follow some home rules. Good luck.

I do not know CO law. Generally, however, 1.) Yes. 2.) Can you prove you paid for half the car? Do you have a bill of sale? In whose name is the car registered? If you are on the registration, you should be able to take it with you when you leave.
