Can a promissory note be recorded against a property so it's reflected in public records?

The property is a 16 unit building in Dallas TX, the private loan was made against it in California where both principals live. I want it reflected in public records so the property shows a mortgage against it.

Promissory notes are not recorded. Promissory notes secured by real property in the form of a mortgage or deed of trust are not recorded. It is the deed of trust which is recorded.

You should check with a Texas attorney if the real property is located in Texas. In California, Mr. Doland is correct that promissory notes are not recorded, but promissory notes which are secured by real property would have a deed of trust recorded, making the loan a matter of public record.
