I was hit by a car while standing in the parking lot while at work.

In March of 2012 I was backed into while standing in the parking lot at work. Workmans's compensation is seeking restitution from the driver's insurance. Since this incident I have lost some use of and have a numbness in my right thumb. The driver's insurance company offered a $500. settlement and payment of current medical bills to the Comp Ins Co. I still have numbness and occasional pain in the thumb. I am a bit confused as to what my legal options are and how to proceed.

First and foremost do not settle with driver before your comp case settled or your w/c benefits will be terminated. You need several things in your case: 1. Medical statement that injuries are related to car accident; 2. Statement of what w/c has paid; 3 I would strongly encourage you speak to a lawyer because you can get a settlement in both cases but they have to be done in correct order AND you can negotiate the w/c lien down. I can explain all this on phone if you want to call me Monday -800-519-0297 or if you email me privately I can give you my cell for over the weekend. There are a lot of issues here.

I agree with the above attorneys. The offer from the driver's insurance company seems very low, especially since your still suffering from injuries that may have been caused by the accident. The best thing you can do right now is contact an attorney. An attorney can evaluate your case and work with the insurance company/workman's comp to get you what you deserve.

Get an attorney asap. Handling your own case is not a very good idea. While I can understand wanting to maximize your settlement you will often do things that hurt your case instead of help it.
