Can my employer make me work 12 hours a day 6 days per week when I initially agreed to 7 hours per day 5 days per week?

I was hired as a temp for 6 months in NYC at 25-35 hours per week. Since a couple days before the hurricane my boss has required me to work 12 hour days consecutively with only 1 day off. Can I refuse and say I want 2 days off per week and work around 8-10 hours per day or even that I want to continue to work 35 hours per week per my original contract?

Mr. Forman is correct. However, your employer can let you go if you are not willing to work the additional hours. Also, your employer is required to pay you time and a half for every hour over 40 that you work each week.

If it is a verbal contract, you can always change the hours you are willing to work, the same as your employer did.
