Storage Space Contaminated by Rat Feces. No food in unit. Who is liable?

We opened our storage space, in a protected dry area to find that the ground and ground boxes were filled with rat feces. We are horrified. We did not store food in the unit. Who is liable for remediation of feces? Who is liable for this condition?

Check your storage contract to see if there is anything mentioned regarding maintenance of the facility. It doesn't sound like there are any damages you could sue for, however, you can immediately change facilities. Good luck.

It is possible the storage facility might be liable for damage to your property, but I doubt it. That is why they usually urge you to get insurance for your unit and possessions. Check your contract to see if they have any responsibility. Report the condition to the facility and see what they do.
