Can a doctor require you to bring your medication and bottles to every appointment?

My doctor recently has been saying that he refuses to fill my medications unless I bring the prescription bottle (and medication) with me to every appointment. I go once a month so it gets difficult. And he claims that it's the law that I have to bring it.

It is not legally required that you bring your medication bottles with you to every appointment. On the other hand, a physician can certainly require it of his or her patients. There are a variety of reasons why they might do so. They might want to address compliance (did you take all your medicine, or take too much), how much pain medication you're taking (are you abusing it, selling it, etc.?), or simply to make sure they are aware of everything you are taking and how, since some people see multiple physicians and you may be taking something prescribed by another physician about which your doctor had not yet received a report. I practiced Medicine for many years before becoming an attorney, and frequently asked patients to bring their medicine bottles with them. It's not sinister, just good Medicine.

I have to ask if there is somethings left out of your question? Also, what are the medications and what is the physician specialty?

I'm going to edit the practice area of your post to "Health Care" for better exposure.
