Can I do an unpaid internship on h4 visa for academic credit?

I am on H4 and I would like to take up an unpaid internship for academic credit. The academic credit is not required for my major, but it is an elective. Is it okay if I take the unpaid internship? I would really appreciate it if you could give me a brief explanation for your answer whether it is yes or no! Thank you

I say no. One on H-4 status cannot accept any type of employment, whether paid or unpaid, unless with a valid USCIS issued employment authorization card. Ask the school's DSO about this.

If you are pursuing a course of study and will in fact get academic credit, then yes.
