Do I file both the FL-142 and the FL-160 in a divorce/family law matter?

I am filing a preliminary declaration of disclosure. On the instruction sheet of the FL160 it states the FL-160 may be filed in place of the the FL-142. Is the FL-142 used to list both community and separate assets and debts and the FL-160 used only to list community or separate property? Do I use both or only one of these forms?

I agree with attorney Benton. If you use the FL-160 form, see that you should probably fill out two: one for separate and one for community. Also, please be aware of identity theft issues, and DO NOT put Social Security numbers and/or full account numbers on anything you file with the Court. I prefer to have clients use form FL-142 instead of FL-160, and NOT file the FL-142 with the Court -- just serve it on the other party. Only the Proof of Service of the Disclosures needs to be filed. Why put all your personal financial information in a public record Court file? You may use either form. The FL-160 has separate boxes to check for community or separate property. I generally use it for both but I file two separate declarations for community and for separate property. You should be able to get this kinds of questions answered at your local courthouse self-help office.

I generally file only one form. I use the 160 if there is a special reason.
