Grand Valley State University 1st Time MIP

There were at least 4 officers around the dorm room I was in. I walked out with no alcohol on me and they said I was obviously huffing something just because my eyes were red. As I was clearly not huffing anything they asked me if I would take a breathalyzer test to which I refused. They gave me the eye test (note that I was sick all week and I spent the majority of the day sleeping) and I guess I didn't pass. They asked if I had alcohol and I said no. They asked if I would let them into the room, to which I also refused because they did not have a warrant. At this point I am surrounded by officers and a crowd of students watching to which made me very nervous. I said I drank out of a random girl's water bottle never saying what was in it. That's when I got slapped with an MIP. What now?

You will need an attorney to assist you with this. If you want to try and find one in your area here on you can select "Find a Lawyer" at the top of the page. Good luck.

Get an attorney and fight this. A statement that you took a drink out of a friends water bottle without more should be legally insufficient to sustain a conviction.

This story is all-too-common at your school. You need an attorney right away. Do not make any more admissions or statements to anyone but your lawyer. Based on what you have described, you may have a pretty good defense but you will need your case investigated properly by your attorney. Do NOT handle this on your own. While it may cost you up front, it is no different than spending tuition money for college - you must consider your future. Law Office of Edward J.
