Stupid mistake first time offense, 12 dollar shoplifting?
Anonymous5 views4 answers
I was with a friend at Walmart and he told me to shoplift about 12 dollars (11.98) worth of football cards. It was a stupid mistake, but I can't fix it, so I just need to know what I do from here. Store LP stopped me and I went back with them, returned the merchandise and apologized (I've never been in trouble before in any sense of the word outside low grades, so I didn't know how to handle myself).
The store LP said that we all make stupid mistakes and because it was under 25 dollars, he wasn't going to call the police, or have them issue me a summons. So my concerns now are, can they still charge me with anything? Even if they don't, should I respond to their civil demands? Do I need to get a lawyer over this? Sorry for the panic, but like I said, I've never been in trouble before!

The best way to quell your panic is to sit down face to face with a Criminal Defense Attorney and get specific advice, us giving general advice will prompt more questions of which we can not answer not because we do not want to but because we do not have all the facts. The store has either 1 or 2 years to file a case and may very well NOT due to the amount, your age it being a mistake etc. Go to the tab and find a lawyer in your town make an appointment, most will give a free consultation or charge a small hourly fee. You will feel better I promise.
Yes, at least talk to an attorney. You don't want to risk anything by providing details of this situation online here, where anyone can read what you say. You should be able to find a lawyer who will offer you a free consultation.
