What type of attorney should I seek to sue a home improvement contractor in NJ for the work he did (or did not do) at my home?

The contractor did breach our contract, has committed violations of the consumer fraud act and the NJ administrative code as related and we want our money back

An attorney with some experience in construction related matters similar to yours would be someone I'd call. There are many good attorneys who do this work on , including my colleague James Landgraf.

I would look for counsel with experience in construction matters. Be prepared to pay them hourly.

You would want a civil litigation attorney who is well versed in the Consumer Fraud Act.

There are many attorneys who would take this type of case on a contingent fee basis. One who has knowledge of construction and consumer fraud. It is not difficult and it is strict liability. I just finished one for a Sandy victim.

Ideally, you want an attorney who handles consumer fraud actions frequently. You also want an attorney who you feel confident in his or her skills and abilities, who offers you a good value, etc. When you're getting into litigation, it's my practice to try to engender a positive relationship with my clients. I want you to know you can trust me and my firm to handle your matter professionally, competently, and (in a perfect world) expeditiously. I do this because litigation is scary, stressful, and expensive. You need to know the attorney you're spending money with is someone who you can trust.
